음주 사고 후 도망가면?! 개그맨 이창명 득이될까 독이될까

오랜만에 어이없는 뉴스를 접했는데 처음 뉴스를 보고난후 정말 화가났지만 악법도 법이라고 했지 않은가 라는 생각도 들었다 법뭔에서는 일단 이창명의 음주운전에 대해서는 구체적으로 입증되지 않았다고 판단했기 때문에 무죄를 선고했고 다만 사고후 미조치 혐의 그리고 자동차 손해배상보장법상 의무보험 미가입 혐의에 대해서만 유죄를 인정해 벌금 500만원을 선고했지요 이창명의 음주운전이 무죄라는 법원 판결로 본인에게 득이되는 부분과 독이되는부분은 무엇일까?! 한발 뒤로 물러서서 보면 뭐가 옳은 일인지 보일텐데 막상 그 사건의 당사자에게는 보이지 않는것 이게 우리가 실수라는 변명을 늘어놓을 수 있는 부분이 아닌가 생각이 됩니다.

이창명씨는 지난해 4월 20일 오후 11시 30분께 서울 영등포구 여의도성모병원 삼거리 교차로에서 신호등에 충돌한 후 차량을 버리고 도주했습니다 이후 연락이 두절됐고 음주 의혹이 불거지면서 불구속 재판을 받았고 무죄판결을 받았는데 저시기의 상황을 살펴보면 문제의 시작은 사건 다음날 4월 21일 시작됐다 서울 영등포 경찰서측은 이날 '하루전날인 20일 밤 이창명이 교통사고를 내고 도주했다. 현재 도로교통법 위반혐의로 조사중이다'라고 밝는데 자신이 운전하던 포르쉐 차량으로 신호등을 들이받는 교통사고를 냈습니다 문제는 여기서 부터 시작됐는데 어찌된 일인지 이창명은 교통사고를 낸 현장에서 곧장 사라졌고 뒷수습은 매니저가 대신했기 때문이죠

경찰조사에서 이창명 매니저는 '이창명이 차량을 운전하고 사고를 냈다. 나는 교통사고가 났다는 전화를 받고 현장으로 달려간 것뿐'이라고 진술했다 이상황은 누가 보더라도 완전한 음주운전으로 밖에 볼 수가 없는데요 검찰이 조사해보니 사고 전에 지인 4명과 함께하는 회식자리에 갔었고 이창명 테이블에 4시간동안 중국 술 6병, 화요 6병, 생맥 500ml 9잔이 들어갔다고 합니다 이런 정황적 증거를 제출했으나 음주운전에 대해서는 무죄판결을 받았는데요 

이때 경찰은 이창명이 교통사고를 낸 직후 찾아간 여의도성모병원 응급실을 압수수색해서 음주와 관련한 이창명 진료기록을 발견했다고 나왔습니다 이창명이 응급실 직원에게 '소주 2병을 마셨다'고 진술한 자료기록부를 확보했으나 이창명은 음주 사실을 부인했습니다 '소주 2병'에 관한 진료기록에 대해 '병원 직원이 잘못 들었다'며 서두를 뗀 이창명은 '음주사실을 숨기기 위해 응급실로 도주했다는 것은 말이 안된다'며 반박하며 자신이 술을 마시지 않은 것은 술자리에 동석한 이들도 모두 알고 있는 사실이고 모든 정황적 증거들을 부정하는 주장을 했는데 이창명 진료기록은 그가 술을 마셨다고 이야기 하고 이창명 스스로는 술을 마시지 않았다고 이야기 하는 상황인데 이 상황을 지켜보는 이들은 분명 어떤게 팩트인지 아시리라 생각됩니다.

이창명의 무죄 판결로 인해서 많은 사람들이 이창명씨를 다시보게 되었던 시간이지 않나 생각해봅니다 앞으로 그의 연예계 생활이 어뜩케 이어질지 궁굼하네요 이렇게 음주운전이 의심되는 상황에서는 무조건 음주측정이나 혈액 체취를 법적으로 정해야 하는게 아닌가 하는 생각까지 드는데요 이 뉴스를 접한 누리꾼들은 '음주 사고후 도망가면 무죄?!', '좋은거 잘 배웠습니다' '가지가지한다'등 부정적인 댓글들을 많이 볼 수 있었는데요 이건 공인이기에 문제를 삼는게 아니라 정말 큰 잘못이기 때문에 글을 쓰는 것이고 이번 무죄판례로 누군가 이런 비슷한 상황에서 정말 음주 후 운전을 하다 사고를 냈다면 이런 식으로 빠져나가는게 아닌가?! 하는 우려가 있습니다 그리고 그 사고가 가로수나 가로등 이런사고가 아니라 인사사고로 이어져서 안타까운 상황이 생길까?! 하는 우려에 적어봅니다

주변 말을 들어보면 음주운전을 하는 사람들은 습관이 들어서 음주후 운전대를 잡는다고들었는데요 제발 음주후에는 운전대를 잡지 마시고 대리부르시던지 처음부터 차를 두고 대중교통을 이용해서 이동을 하시기를 바랍니다 음주운전으로 본인에게만 피해를 주는게 아니라 열심히 사는 사람이 피해를 받을 수 도 있으니 그 피해자가 내 주변 사람이 될 수도 있고 내가 사랑하는 사람이 될 수도 있다는 부분을 반드시 꼭 명심하길 바랍니다

동안 여배우 나이가 믿기지 않는 여배우들

인터넷으로 여기저기 둘러보다 동안 여배우라는 글을 봤는데 진심 내가 질풍 노도의 시기때부터 봐오던 배우들의 모습들이 큰변화없이 여전히 예쁜모습을 간직하고 있구나 하는 생각을 했는데요 오늘 소개해드린 분들은 분명 평소 선행을 베풀고 살았거나 가족이나 조상분들이 덕을 많이 배풀고 살아온게 아닐까?! 하는 생각을 조심서럽게 해보면서~  연예인들중 최강동안이라고 자타가 공인해주는 동안 여배우들을 소개해드리겠습니다.

처음 소개해드릴 분은 김희애씨입니다 티비를 챙겨보는 성격이 아니다보니 김희애씨를 알게된건 밀회라는 드라마에서 유아인과 함께 나오면서부터 알게되었네요 와 진심 매력있구나 하는 생각도 했었는데 나이가 상당히 많으신 분이시더라구요 ㅋㅋ 김희애씨는 광고에서 "나이가 들수록 매력을 더해가는 남자. 그러나 나이가 들수록 점점 더 시들기만 한다는 여자의 운명, 전 믿지 않아요"라고 모 화장품 광고에서 오글거리는 대사를 쳤는데요 김희애가 했기에 자연스러웠는지도 모르겠네요 "운명도 아름다움도 스스로 만든다"는 문구가 배우 김희애의 삶은 대변하느는듯 합니다. 김희애씨는 50대라고 믿어지지 않을정도로 최강동안을 자랑하고 있는데요 피부미인의 대명사라고도 알려진 김희애씨는 1983년 영화 '스무해 첫째날'로 데뷔했다고 하는데요 데뷔사진을 보시면 '와~'라는 감탄사만 나옵니다

문재인 선거유세 트럭 사고의 진실 몇개

이 글을 쓰기에 앞서서 어제 문재인 선거유세 차량과 추돌한 오토바이 운전자 고인의 명복을 빕니다. 어제 하루종인 이슈로 말많았던 문재인 선거유세 트럭 사고의 진실을 몇가지 알게되어서 포스팅해보려 합니다 물론 이 일에 대해 어느 한쪽의 편을 들고싶은 생각은 없지만 정확한 팩트는 알고 봐야 하는 부분이기에 글을 올려봅니다  

선거 유세용 트럭에 음성 영상 무대 등 별도 장치를 부착 개조해서 정당에 납품하는 회사가 있는데 이 회사는 도로교통법과 선거법 등을 숙지해야 하고 최상의 홍보도구를 만들어야 하는 전문 회사입니다 여러 정당에서 주문 발주 납품 계약을 맺고 영업을 하는 전문회사인데요 정치 정당과는 전혀 관련이 없는 회사입니다. 스스로 모든 장비를 만들고 부착하는 회사가 아니라 무대장치, 음향장치, LED등 영상장치를 부착하는 재하청 업체 여러곳과 계약을 맺고 작업을 한다고합니다 그러니까 트럭 한 대 운전해서 여러 종류의 작업을 각각 다른 공장에서 해야 하므로 제작 과정에 있어서 이동이 잦은것입니다

사고당일 민주당 문재인 간판을 먼저 부착하고 음향 설비 부착하는 업체로 이동하는 과정에서 그만 사고가 발생했는데요 유세 트럭 제작하는 회사에서 민주당이 납품을 받기도 훨씬 전에 제작하는 과정에서 발생한 사고입니다 선거유세차량 제작과정이 가-나-다-라 단계가 있다면 가 에서 나 로 이동하는 중에 사고가 발생한 것입니다.

어제 처음 사고가 나고 뉴스에 나왔을때는 차선 변경이 불가한 도로에서 문재인 선거유세차량이 무리한 차선변경으로 오토바이와 추돌했고 운전자는 병원으로 옮겼지만 고인이 되었다는 뉴스가 나왔지요 하지만 시간이 지나고 뉴스에는 오토바이 운전자의 고속을 문제로 기사가 올라오는 것을 보았습니다 이 사고는 몹시 불행한 사고이며 가장 큰 피해자는 사망자와 그의 유가족인 것은 명백합니다. 그리고 각각의 책임은 응당 저야만 합니다. 민주당과 문재인은 발주자로서 도의적 책임을 표명한 것은 잘했다고 생각합니다.

민주당 측은 앞서 유가족이 SNS(소셜네트워크)에 "운전자가 응급차를 부르기보다는 차를 세워놓고 먼저 자신이 속한 '선거대책본부'에 사고를 보고한 것으로 추측한다"고 올린 것에 대해서도 해명을 했습니다 해당 관계자는 "유세차량 운전자는 민주당 소속이 아니라 민주당에 물건을 납품할 회사 직원이었고, 그 회사느 문 후보뿐만 아니라 다른 당 후보 유세차량도 만들어 납품하는 업체"라고 설명했다. 이어 "민주당에 배달하는 과정에서 사고가 난 것이 아니라 출하 이전에 업체가 차량을 이동하는 과정에서 사고가 난 것"이라며 "해당직원이 민주당 쪽 연락처를 아는 상황도 아니었다"고 덧붙였다.

위 캡쳐사진은 이종카페의 지인이 장례식 다녀와서 남긴 댓글들입니다 아마도 우리가 뉴스로 보고 있는 글들은 팩트가 아님을 보여주는 증거가 되겠지요.. 제발 이런 슬픈 일들이 정치적으로 이용되지 않기를 바랍니다.

하고 싶은 말이 많지만 어느한쪽의 입장에서 글이 써질까두렵네요 지금 기사 찾아보니 강제조문했다는 느김의 기사들이 전부 수정되어있네요.. 언론플레이인건지 기자분들 정확한 팩트를 가지고 기사를 써주셨으면 하는 작은 바램입니다.

오바마 대통령의 업적

개인적으로 오바마 대통령을 좋아하는 사람으로 리더로서의 자질과 성품 그리고 노력을 두루 갖추고 있다 생각되기에~ 오바마 대통령의 업적과 그가 트럼프를 받아드리는 방법에 대해 써볼까 하는데요~ 오바마는 미국의 정치가, 인권변호사 출신으로 일리노이주 상원의원 (3선)을 거쳐 연방 상원의원을 지녔으며, 2008년 민주당 대통령 후보로 출마하여 공화돵의 존 매케인 후보에 압승하고 제 44대 미국 대통령에 당선되면서 미국 최초의 흑인 대통령이 되었지요~ 정확히 말하면 혼혈이긴하네요~

그는 다인종 다미족 다문화 가저에서 자라면서 술과 담배와 마약에도 손을 대는등 불우한 청소년 시절을 보냈는데요~ 이러한 경험을 통해서 관용과 화합을 배우게 되었다고 하네요~ 하와이에서 고등학교를 졸업한 뒤 로스앤젤레서의 옥시덴털대학교에 진학하여 2년동안 공부한뒤 뉴욕 컬럼비아 대학교 정치학과로 편입을 하게 됩니다 대학 시절부터 아프리카계 미국인으로서 정체성에 눈을 뜨게 되면서 마약을 끊고 학업에 정진하게 됩니다 193년 대학 졸업 후 잠시 컨설팅회사에서 일하다가 1985년부터 사회운동을 시작해 시카고 빈민가에서 주민들의 주거와 교육 환경을 개선하는데 헌신하였습니다.

1988년 하버드대학교 로스쿨에 입학한 뒤 1991년 최고 권위의 로스쿨 학술지로 인정받는 <하버드 로 리뷰 Harvard Law Review>의 첫 흑인 편집장이 되어 주목을 받으며 1992년 로펌에서 만난 미쉘 로빈슨과 결혼하였으며, 1993년부터 2004년까지 시카고 대학교 법과대학에서 전임상사로 헌법을 가르치기도 했습니다.

2007년 2월 링컨 대통령이 노예해방 투쟁을 선언한 장소인 일리노이주 스프링필드에서 대통령 선거 출마를 선언하였고, 민주당 대통령 후보 경선에서 힐러리 클린턴, 존 캐리, 존 에드워즈 등과 경쟁하였으며 '변화와 희망'을 앞세워 2008년 1월 첫 경선지인 아이오와주 코커스에서 승리를 거둠으로써 돌풍을 일으켰습니다. 이후 힐러리 클린텅과 경합 끝에 2008년 8월 민주당 대통령 후보로 확정되었습니다.

대통령 선거 공약으로는 집권 후 16개월 안에 상원의원 시절부터 명분 없는 전쟁이라고 반대해온 이라크전쟁에서 철군할 것과 전 국민 건강보험 혜택을 비롯하여 대학 교육비 절감, 중산층과 서민을 위한 세제 개편등 사회복지 정책을 적극적으로 추진하고 대(對) 북한 정책에서도 전임 부시 정부와 달리 직접 협상 등 적극적 개입으로 한반도의 긴장을 완화시킬 것 등을 제시하였습니다.

링컨 대통령을 존경한 오바마 대통령이라는 수식어가 따라다니는 그는 미국인이 세계에서 가장 존경하는 인물로 선정되었고 자국민들의 엄청난 지지율로 1930대 이후 역대 대통령 중 가장 인기가 높은 대통령이였다지요~ 신분 연령제한없이 가장 큰 인기를 얻었고 여성 몰표, 흑인몰표는 물론이고 만 40세 이하의 연령층에서도 역시 몰표가 나올정도였다고 하네요~

요번에 트럼프가 대통령이 되서 반대하는 사람들도 많고 걱정하는 사람들도 많은거같은데~ 오바마가 요번에 했던 말을 이용하자면 우리는 한팀이다 라는 말이 참 많이 와닫네요~ 성향은 다르지만 결국엔 다 한팀이다..  바톤을 잘 넘겨주는게 몫이다라는 말.. 믿고 조언해주고 하면.. 변화가 있지 않을까?! 생각해봅니다.

(CNN) -- When David Beckham was spotted in the Macau crowd at last weekend's Manny Pacquio vs. Brandon Rio fight -- his handsome mug given a nice share of screen time -- most of us assumed he was there just as a boxing fan.

Turns out there was a little deal in the works as well.

Global resort developer Las Vegas Sands (LVS) and Beckham Ventures just announced a partnership that will have the retired footballer team up with the brand's integrated resort properties in Macao and Singapore.

David Beckham, hotelier? Has a nice ring to it. And it's likely the former England captain knows a thing or two about sheet thread counts given the amount of time he's logged on the road.

But sadly, as much as many of us would love to stay in a Beckham-designed suite, it seems his expertise will be put to use in other areas.

Details on specific projects weren't released but according to LVS the partnership will be based around the development of "dining, retail and leisure concepts" at Sands China properties in Macao and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

"We have billions of dollars invested in our own global, iconic brands and we clearly understand the importance of growing and sustaining those brands over time," said Michael Leven, president and chief operating officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp, in a statement.

"The odds are extremely high that a partnership with David Beckham will help us further those efforts and provide David with the same benefit. We are very excited about the partnership and we fully expect it to grow in the years to come, especially as we aggressively explore opportunities to further expand our presence in Asia."

That's corporate speak for "David Beckham's name brings in big bucks."

"The Sands team has created amazing resorts in Singapore and Macau," said Beckham in a statement.

"The scale, vision and caliber in all that they do is impressive. I am very excited to be working with them to develop a range of new business ideas in a part of the world that I love spending time in and is full of optimism and growth."

What's Becks getting himself into?

Macau has 33 casinos -- with more on the way -- run by six casino operators: SJM Holdings (Stanley Ho), Wynn Macau, Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment Group, MGM China Holdings and Melco Crown Entertainment.

According to a recent report in Bloomberg, gambling revenue in the Chinese city rose 18% to 297.1 billion patacas ($37.2 billion) in the first 10 months of this year, close to the $38 billion revenue the city raked in for the whole of 2012. That's six times more than the Las Vegas Strip earned.

Leading the way is the Sands' Venetian property. With almost 540,000 square feet of gaming space, it has the largest casino floor in the world. The Las Vegas Sands group spent $2.4 billion to build this replica of the Las Vegas original.

In Singapore, there are only two casinos -- Las Vegas Sands Corp.'s Marina Bay Sands and Genting Singapore PLC's Resorts World Sentosa. They generated about $5.85 billion in gambling revenue in 2012, putting Singapore behind Vegas for third in the world gaming revenue rankings.

With 2,560 rooms and more than 10,000 staff, the $5.5 billion Marina Bay Sands has become Singapore's most famous landmark since opening in 2010 thanks to the boat-shaped rooftop that connects its three towers and dominates the skyline.

Beckham's Miami dreams

Casino resorts aren't the only area of business Beckham is looking at right now.

As CNN reported on November 18, basketball superstar Lebron James said he's interested in teaming up with the former L. A. Galaxy player to bring a new Major League Soccer franchise to Miami.

Beckham, who retired from professional football in May, publicly expressed his desire to become a club owner at a book launch in September.

"I'm passionate about staying in football and being an owner of a team is something I'm passionate about," the 38-year-old said on a show broadcast live on Facebook to his 30 million followers.

"Miami is one of the places we looked at, and we've looked at others too."

Santa Clarita, California (CNN) -- Actor Paul Walker, who shot to fame as star of the high-octane street racing franchise "Fast & Furious," died in a fiery car crash in Southern California on Saturday. He was 40.

Walker was in the passenger seat of a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, driven by a racing team partner, that slammed into a light pole and burst into flames in an office park in the community of Valencia in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Hollywood.

Walker's publicist Ame van Iden confirmed his death Saturday. The driver, identified by CNN affiliate KCAL-TV as Roger Rodus, also died.

"Thank you all for your condolences and prayers while we mourn the loss of our loved ones," read a message posted on the Facebook page for Always Forever, the high-performance car shop owned by Rodus.

Los Angeles Coroner Investigator Dana Bee told CNN on Sunday it would likely take 48 hours to officially identify the remains taken from the twisted wreckage. The families are gathering dental records for use in the identification, which is necessary because of the condition of the bodies, Bee said.

Speed was a factor in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said. A 45 mph speed limit sign was attached to the light pole knocked down by the Porsche.

The car, which sold for $450,000 when new, is a notoriously difficult vehicle to handle, even for professional drivers, according to Autoweek magazine. A top driver called it "scary," the magazine reported Sunday. It is powered by a V-10, 610-hp engine.

The wreck took place about 3:30 p.m. just a few hundred yards from the shop owned by Rodus. Both men had attended a holiday toy drive for Walker's charity, Reach Out Worldwide, hosted at the shop Saturday afternoon.

Antonio Holmes told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal newspaper that he was at the charity event when Walker and Rodus left for a ride in the Porsche.

"We all heard from our location," Holmes told the Signal. "It's a little difficult to know what it was. Someone called it in and said it was a vehicle fire. We all ran around and jumped in cars and grabbed fire extinguishers and immediately went to the vehicle. It was engulfed in flames. There was nothing. They were trapped. Employees, friends of the shop. We tried. We tried. We went through fire extinguishers."

A crowd of grieving fans, curious onlookers and media surrounded the crash site for hours, watching as investigators and firefighters worked to extract the bodies from the wreckage. A memorial of flowers, left by fans, remained on the charred roadside Sunday.

Walker and Rodus had planned Saturday as a day to help survivors of victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The car shop website invited customers to the Charity Toy Drive & Automotive Social Gathering.

"During the holiday season, many economically disadvantaged children from around the world are faced with the same dilemma year after year; the lacking of joy and cheer," the invitation read. "Our goal here is to be able to provide aid to these less fortunate children in hopes of helping them grow up to become confident, responsible and productive young adults."

Walker's charity is described as "a network of professionals with first responder skill-sets who augment local expertise when natural disasters strike in order to accelerate relief efforts."

The website lists Rodus as captain and lead driver of the shop's racing team. Walker is also listed as a team driver.

Tales of the actor's philanthropy are not new. CNN confirmed one story from a decade ago when Walker noticed a young U.S. military veteran shopping with his fiance for a wedding ring in a Santa Barbara jewelry store.

"The groom was just back from duty in Iraq, and he was going to be deployed again soon and wanted to buy a wedding ring, but he said he just could not afford it," saleswoman Irene King told CNN. "I don't think the soldier realized how expensive those rings are, about $10,000."

Although Walker noticed them, the couple apparently did not know who he was, King said.

"Walker called the manager over and said, 'Put that girl's ring on my tab,' " she said. "Walker left all his billing info, and it was a done deal. The couple was stunned. She was thrilled and could not believe someone did this."

King called it "the most generous thing I have ever seen."

Box office success

Walker's career began on the small screen, first with a commercial for Pampers when he was 2, and then with parts in shows such as "Highway to Heaven" and "Touched by an Angel."

His first few movie roles were as supporting characters in teen flicks, most notably in "Varsity Blues."

His career really took off when he was cast as undercover cop Brian O'Conner infiltrating a street-racing gang in 2001's "The Fast and the Furious."

The box-office success of the surprise summer hit yielded numerous sequels. And along with Vin Diesel, Walker was one of the franchise stalwarts.

At the time of his death, he was working on the seventh film of the franchise, due out next year.

Walker wasn't just a car enthusiast on the silver screen; offscreen, the actor competed in the Redline Time Attack racing series.

On his verified Twitter account, Walker described himself as "outdoorsman, ocean addict, adrenaline junkie ... and I do some acting on the side."

Walker also is the star of "Hours," an independent film scheduled to be released December 13 about a father struggling to keep his newborn infant alive in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Twitter and other social media exploded with reactions to Walker's death.

"Completely numb and saddened to hear of the tragic death of Paul Walker," wrote one.

Hollywood condolences came from Will Smith, Jack Osbourne, DMX and others.

"No, @RealPaulWalker. No. No. No," tweeted actress Alyssa Milano. Walker appeared with her as a guest star in the '80s comedy "Who's the Boss?" "Rest with the angels. You. Sweet boy. #beauty #love #RIP."

Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.

(CNN) -- ISON, the most closely watched comet in recent years, may be falling apart as it nears its close encounter with the sun.

Comets are giant snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that can be several miles in diameter. When they get near the sun, they warm up and spew out some of the gas and dirt, creating a tail that can stretch for thousands of miles. Most comets are in the outer part of our solar system. When they get close enough for us to see them, scientists study them for clues about how our solar system formed.

When ISON was first discovered, hopes were high that it might become visible to the naked eye, meaning everyone might be able see it, not just those with good telescopes who took the trouble to find it. There was talk it might even rival some of the Great Comets like Halley's or Hale-Bopp and spread a huge tail across the sky.

But some observers on Tuesday reported online that the comet is not nearly as bright as it has been in recent days and that it may be pouring out dust.

This could mean the comet's core, or nucleus, has "completely disrupted, releasing an enormous volume of dust," NASA's Comet ISON Observing Campaign says in its November 25 online update.

But other observers say images taken by NASA's STEREO spacecraft are "encouraging evidence that the comet still exists," Padma Yanamandra-Fisher with the ISON campaign told reporters on the campaign's Facebook page. She added that it's too early to tell what kind of shape the comet is in, though.

"I believe the next couple of days will be crucial to determine the post-perihelion appearance of the comet," Yanamandra-Fisher said. Perihelion is the point in an object's path that is closest to the sun.

Whatever its final fate, she said, ISON has "provided a wonderful window into the world of comets. The full understanding of this comet and its place in the taxonomy of comets will only come in hindsight."

ISON was discovered in September of 2012 by astronomers Vitali Nevski and Artyom Novichonok using a telescope near Kislovodsk, Russia, that is part of the International Scientific Optical Network (ISON). ISON -- officially named C/2012 S -- was 585 million miles away at the time. Its amazing journey through the solar system has been chronicled by amateur astronomers and by space telescopes. NASA has even created a toolkit for ISON fans.

Confusion about its fate isn't new for ISON watchers.

"From the moment of discovery, ISON has been a confusing, frustrating, dynamic and unpredictable object. In other words, it has been a very typical comet!" said Karl Battams, an astrophysicist with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington.

The glare of the sun has blocked most ground-based observations, but NASA has a fleet of spacecraft watching as ISON plunges toward the sun. If it hasn't already broken up, it will skim about 730,000 miles above its surface on Thanksgiving Day and could put on a sky show in early December when it moves out of the glare of the sun.

The comet will make its closest approach to Earth on December 26, and, no, it won't hit us. But for now, we wait to learn ISON's fate.

"I am excited at marking the progress of this comet that has captivated the world from its discovery and the possibility of it being a Great Comet," Yanamandra-Fisher told CNN.com. "I am glad that I was able to be part of its journey."
